Nelson Rubbish & Recycling

Bin collection days for every Nelson suburb, what goes in each bin, and where to drop off everything else.

Nelson City Council collects recycling every two weeks in a yellow-top bin and a blue glass crate, but it does not collect rubbish, which is done by private companies. Here is how to find your collection day, what goes in each bin, and where to take everything else.

Have your bins out by 7am on collection day. A few streets differ from the rest of their suburb, so check your exact address with the council’s lookup.

Rubbish is collected by private companies, not the council. Betta Bins and Can Plan sell rubbish bags, and Betta Bins, Can Plan, Environz and Waste Management offer rubbish wheelie bins.

Which week am I on?

Your collection day and week number are printed on the sticker on your recycling bin. The recycling calendar shows which weeks are Week 1 and Week 2.

I missed my rubbish collection. What now?

Betta Bins bags can be dropped at the Nelson Waste Recovery Centre for free.

Who do I call about recycling?
