Stand-downs and suspensions
Cases per 1,000 students in 2025, adjusted for the ages of the school’s students, compared with all New Zealand schools.
These measure how a school responds to behaviour, and schools set their own thresholds, so they are not a measure of how students behave.
What ERO found
The Education Review Office’s latest report on the school is a Te Ara Huarau School Profile Report from March 2024. This kind of report sets out what ERO and the school will evaluate together, here the effect of its revised, localised junior curriculum on achievement, engagement and fair outcomes.
ERO pointed to an agreed teacher profile, classroom culture guide and learning design principles used across the school, systematic tracking that picks out students who need extra help to catch up, and growing partnerships with mana whenua and whānau Māori. ERO also noted that the school manages the local alternative education provider and the Top of the South Trades Academy.
The school’s priorities are more targeted professional learning to build teachers’ cultural capability and their teaching of students with additional needs, bringing in and evaluating better academic mentoring, tracking and reporting, and continuing to strengthen links with whānau, the community and mana whenua.

Enrolling
Students who live in the home zone have the right to enrol and need to show proof of their usual address. Out-of-zone places are offered under the school’s enrolment scheme, by ballot when there are more applicants than places, with priority for siblings of current and former students, then children of former students, then children of board employees and members.
The school publishes its out-of-zone places and ballot dates on its Enrolment Zone page each year, and families apply through the online enrolment form linked from its enrolment page.
